Freshwater, estuarine, and marine ecosystems are experiencing unprecedented environmental change. At the same time, fish telemetry is evolving rapidly through technological innovation, global collaboration, and new opportunities to translate research into real-world conservation and management outcomes.
The 8th ICFT will bring together researchers, practitioners, managers and industry partners from around the world to explore the current situation and future of fish tracking encompassing all technologies, environments, species and applications through seven conference themes:
Exploring how telemetry is advancing our understanding of habitat alteration, species resilience, biodiversity, and the impacts of climate change on aquatic ecosystems.
Celebrating international collaboration, cross-border research, shared telemetry infrastructure, interoperable technologies, and open data that enable science at regional and global scales.
Showcasing outreach, education, stakeholder engagement, indigenous partnerships, community science and collaborations, including practitioners, fisheries stakeholders, industry and policymakers, that strengthen the impact of telemetry research.
Demonstrating how telemetry data are informing fisheries management, conservation, habitat restoration, ecosystem-based management, and evidence-based policy.
Covering a broad range of analytical methods, including movement modelling, habitat use, residency and migration analyses, behavioural inference, network and connectivity analyses, as well as integration of novel data streams, such as microchemistry, environmental monitoring, remote sensing, and to help elucidate behavioural ecology. Contributions addressing data quality and reproducible workflows are also encouraged.
Registration will open in January 2027.

Evening entertainment will include a visit to The Deep, Hull’s world-class aquarium. Midweek excursions on Wednesday will take in local natural and historic attractions – several of which were recently featured in National Geographic’s Best of the World 2026.
As is ICFT tradition, the conference dinner will also feature an international singing competition.
